We digitise newspapers, journals, magazines and yearbooks into searchable PDF files – non-destructively with an overhead scanner up to A1+ format, or with a sheet-fed scanner if the copies may be cut apart. Splitting the spreads into individual pages is always included in the service.
From bound volumes to a searchable archive
Bound volumes and brittle old newsprint are handled with care – in overhead scanning the original lies still and nothing is fed through a machine. The equipment is FADGI-calibrated, which gives accurate colour reproduction. The page images are post-processed: spreads are split, pages are straightened and the edges are tidied up. Everything is then OCR-interpreted so that every issue becomes searchable – entire volumes can be searched for a name or an event in seconds. As an option we offer AI correction of the interpreted text, which gives a greatly improved search layer at a very reasonable price.
